Where the time came from
Matching. Once Brillrec was reading clients’ files correctly, 84% of the bank and ledger lines in a month were matched automatically. Each match shows how it was made, so the reviewer can see why a line was cleared. The rest stayed open for the team to match or explain themselves.
Bank charges. Charges that were only on the statement are explained together in one step and go into the journal export, instead of being found and posted one at a time.
Audit preparation. Each month’s sign-off pack already holds the reconciliation statement, every reconciling item with its explanation, and who prepared, approved and reviewed it. The evidence is gathered while the work is done, not pieced together in January.

What we learned first
The first lesson had nothing to do with matching. One client’s files wrote dates as 20250112 and marked reversals as RC and RD. Until Brillrec read those correctly, no matching rule could do its job. We fixed the import, then added rules for principal and interest booked as separate lines and for small rounding entries. Every new file layout is now checked against the file’s own totals and balances before anything is matched.

Results reported by clients, in their own words, except the matching figure, which was measured in Brillrec on a month of their records. Results depend on your records and how your team works. The clients asked not to be named.
