Balance per cash book
The closing balance of your ledger or cash book for the period.
The statement shows how your cash book reaches the bank’s balance.
Open BrillrecThe closing balance of your ledger or cash book for the period.
Every open item is listed with its amount and explanation: for example bank charges, entries still to post, deposits not yet banked and payments not yet cleared.
The cash book balance after those items. This is what the bank’s closing balance ought to be.
The closing balance shown on the bank statement you loaded.
The bank statement balance less the figure it should be. It should be nil, or within the allowance your organisation has set.
Under the statement, three checks are shown: the proof above, the bank statement roll-forward (opening balance plus transactions equals closing balance) and the cash book roll-forward. The first two must pass before sign-off. The third is a warning.
An administrator can allow a small unreconciled difference on each bank account, with an organisation-wide default for accounts that do not set their own. A difference within the allowance can be signed off once a reason is recorded. The reason is kept in the audit trail and shown on the statement, the sign-off pack and the Excel file. Without an allowance, the difference must be nil.
Start with items that are unmatched or unexplained, then check for a duplicate or an entry in the wrong period. Investigate on an item suggests possible counterparts. Also check that the opening balance agrees with last period’s closing balance.
Brillrec marks it “left since” the period in which it first appeared, so that it is not forgotten.
Yes. Download the sign-off pack or the Excel file from the reconciliation. Both show the proof, the reconciling items and the allowance and reason, if any.
