Your first reconciliation,
step by step.

From a new account to a signed-off statement.

Open Brillrec
Six steps

Most teams complete their first reconciliation in one sitting.

01

Start your trial

Open app.brillrec.com and choose Start free trial. Create your account. The trial lasts 14 days and needs no card. You become the administrator of your organisation.

02

Add a bank account

Open Bank accounts and add the account you reconcile: its name, bank, account number and currency. If you have already connected your bank or accounting software, choose Start from a connection to fill in the details for you.

03

Start a reconciliation

Choose New reconciliation. There are four steps: What (the account and period), Files (the bank statement and your ledger or cash book), Columns (confirm how Brillrec read each column) and Review.

04

Review the matches

Brillrec suggests matches and shows the reason for each. Confirm or reject them. Depending on the account’s policy, suggestions that meet the policy can be confirmed automatically. Anything unmatched stays on the list for you.

05

Explain what remains

Open each remaining item and record what it is: a bank charge, a timing difference, an entry still to post and so on. Investigate shows likely counterparts, grouped amounts, duplicates and reversals to help you decide.

06

Check the statement and sign off

The Statement tab proves that the cash book and the bank statement agree. When it does, submit for approval or sign off. Reading the statement and Signing off explain each.

Common questions

Quick answers.

Which files can I use?

Spreadsheet or CSV exports of your bank statement and your ledger or cash book, up to 25 MB each. NIBSS NIP session reports are recognised too. You can also load either side automatically from a connection instead of uploading.

My columns look different from the example. What now?

The Columns step shows how Brillrec read your file, with a preview. Change any column that is wrong before going on. If AI assistance is on for your organisation, you can ask it to suggest which column is which. You still see and confirm the result.

The opening balance does not agree with last month. What should I do?

Brillrec compares this period’s opening balance with the last period’s closing balance before matching. If they differ, it tells you. You can correct the earlier period, or continue with the gap shown as an unidentified difference that must be matched or explained before sign-off.

Can my colleagues use it too?

Yes. An administrator adds colleagues and gives each a role: preparer, approver or administrator. Access and data handling explains the roles.

What happens when the trial ends?

Only the Billing page opens until you choose a plan. Your records are kept for 30 days after the trial ends so that you can decide; after that they are deleted. We email you two days before the trial ends and again when it ends.
